Bristol Community Dance Centre offer a wide range of public dance classes. For timetable details please see the download on the right. Traditional Pan African Dance Connect with Africa's rich and ancient cultural heritage. Hear and explore drum languages. Experience traditional dances from across Africa. Learn the intricate, powerful and expressive dances — bring a friend and lots of energy. Afro-Brazilian Afro Brazilian Dance is a stylish and vibrant class covering the traditional styles of Samba Rio Carnival, Samba Reggae and Afoxé. Utilising the infectious music and rhythms these classes develop coordination, confidence and personal style. Bollywood Music and dance are an essential ingredient of Bollywood (a reference to the Indian film industry) films. The dances combine Indian classical and western styles expressing the inner emotions of the dancer. It has a universal appeal due to its combination of styles making it fun and accessible for all levels of ability. Breakdance offers an all action session, experience the dance introduced by the Black and Hispanic communities of New York in the '70's. Join in on the new Break revival; learn moves like the "baby", "six step", "swipes and freeze". Improvers class develops these into the ultimate body workout and self expression. Capoeira is a dynamic fusion of deadly fighting movement, brilliant acrobatic dance and beautiful traditional music. Learn the traditional footwork, evasive movements and acrobatics, undertaken in the traditional "Roda" or circle. Children's Classes Friendly anxiety free classes enabling children to revel in dance. Sessions nurture creativity, confidence and interaction. Circle Dance Experience the rich traditions of Circle Dance from around the world. &Gypsy music and dances learned together. Bring a partner or come along solo - beginners especially welcome. Contact Improvisation With partners and in groups Contact is a shared dance experience. Technical exercises support exploration of the form. Sessions contrast wild energy with meditative stillness. Come along and revel in the unexpected and limitless dialogue of improvisation, both in silence and with music. Contemporary Dance Offers a fluid "body friendly" method of movement, embracing balance, alignment and the extensive use of the whole body across the space. Harnessing music, rhythm and the dynamic use of sequences. Contemporary dance is invaluable in developing movement, confidence and creativity. Funky Dance Workout A high energy workout incorporating aerobics, stretch and original sequences with a compelling style and delivery. Flamenco Immerse yourself in the varied rhythms of the traditional music. Hip Hop Stylish, fluid, hip. Learn original sequences and routines to R&B, Hip Hop, Garage etc. Egyptian / Belly Dance Learn to dance to the rhythms of Middle Eastern music. Incorporating body isolation, step combination and movements synonymous with Arabic rhythms. Develop positive style, posture and choreography. Pilates A body conditioning method that targets the deep postural muscles rebalancing the body and bringing it into correct alignment. (Run as a pre-paid 8 week course. See class listings for dates & email for booking form) Hatha Yoga Hatha Yoga with foundations in the Sivananda teachings. Working with the breathing this yoga can help to stretch, strengthen and relax you whilst focusing on improving core strength and posture. Suitable for all levels and abilities. Youth Breakdance For budding B'boys & B'girls aged 10 - 14yrs learn the basic moves like "six step", swipes & freezes with Champloo Dance Company. Youth Dance Aimed at 11 - 16 year olds with an interest in creating and performing new, original work. Sessions include Contemporary technique and creative skills building towards performance. Zumba Fitness Is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow latin-inspired dance class. Take it at your own pace. No need for any experience, just bring water, enthusiasm and a huge smile. .................................................................
